Northern Summer
"A loveless world is a dead world, and always there comes an hour when one is weary of prisons, of one's work, and of devotion to duty, and all one craves for is a loved face, the warmth and wonder of a loving heart."

Not to rain on everyone’s Olympic parade but I think this is an issue worth noting.

“A column in the Vancouver Sun earlier this month pointed out the disparity between income figures and common perceptions, highlighting 10 areas that would be considered the poorest in Canada according to those figures.

The New Brunswick postal codes that rank among the 10 poorest according to income are all First Nations communities: Kingsclear, Eel Ground, Tobique, Elsipogtog, Red Bank and Esgenoopetitj, also known as Burnt Church.

The median income in those areas was below $14,000 in 2006, with Esgenoopetitj ranking as the poorest neighbourhood in Canada, with a median income of $9,200.”

Broken Social Scene’s newest album, Forgiveness Rock Record, is due to be released sometime in early May but one of the tracks, “World Sick”, is available for download here on their website. I can’t wait to hear the rest!

so youre from canada, eh? do you watch hockey? do you have a skidoo? how many times have you driven on the trans canada highway?

@Anonymous

- I like hockey. I watch it on T.V. sometimes although I can’t say that I make an actual effort; if it’s on and I’m around I’ll pay attention. I also love going to hockey games because they’re pretty action-packed (for the most part) and all of the smells/sounds/scents that go along with skating arenas make me feel really nostalgic (I figure skated for a long time when I was a kid)

- I’ve never owned a skidoo but a number of my relatives/friends have in the past. I’ve driven them before (a couple of times on a frozen river, which probably wasn’t safe) and they’re super mega awesome fun.

- When I’m in Sackville I don’t have access to a car so I never really drive anywhere (although I CAN see the Trans-Canada far off in the distance from my kitchen window). When I’m at home in Moncton I drive on the Trans-Canada nearly every day. It’s usually the quickest way for me to get most places because of where my parents live (and I like driving fast….)

Mom: ‘You should put some salt on the front walkway. Someone’s going to fall and hurt themselves.’

Dad: 'Meh… who cares? It’s not like we live in America; we’re not going to get sued.’
